Especially when using a home cinema projector with a masking function, the multi-format screen makes sense, because the projector can also display the Cinemascope format in addition to the 16: 9 format. Masking the multi-format screen prevents a white area from being left on the screen, which is then blackened only by the contrast of the projector. In the multi-format screen, the area is covered with a cloth, which also prevents minor reflections. Thus, the cinema feeling is not disturbed with changing film formats and the contrast at the edges remains correspondingly strong. The masking of the multi-format screen can be done from different directions. From above and / or below or from left and right. Most common is the version from above or below, because you do not have to leave the natural shape of the canvas. For a mask coming from left and right, the multi-format screen would be well outside the usual cabinet dimensions. This is more likely when using a frame canvas used. Since the implementation of the technique for the multi-format screen is much more difficult, the multi-format screen price is also much higher than that of a conventional screen. In addition to the more expensive technology, the higher quality of the screen itself usually plays a decisive role in pricing.
