What makes a gaming projector?
A low response time and a high refresh rate are essential for gaming projectors so that gaming action appears on the projection screens without delay. The refresh rate indicates how often the image is displayed per second, while the response time describes how quickly a pixel can change colour.
Normal projectors or televisions often only work at 60 Hz. Gaming projectors, on the other hand, usually only start at 120 Hz - only from this value is your input command via controller or keyboard converted into visible action with almost no delay.
Even the smallest latencies are clearly noticeable when gaming and can seriously disrupt the gaming experience. That's why specially optimised projectors for gaming are the better choice for demanding gamers
Is a 4K projector useful for gaming?
If you are considering whether a 4K projector is worthwhile for gaming, it all depends on your requirements in terms of image quality and immersion. In direct comparison to a Full HD projector, a 4K projector offers four times the resolution - meaning significantly sharper images, finer details and visibly more depth in the gameplay.
While full HD projectors can be sufficient for smaller projection screens or limited seating distance, a gaming projector with 4K really comes into its own in modern setups with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or gaming PC. Combined with features such as HDR and 120 Hz, the result is an impressively smooth and visually intense gaming experience - ideal for anyone who values graphics quality and future-proofing.
Technical features that make the difference in gaming
A good gaming projector impresses with more than just resolution and response time. The following technical features determine whether your game is displayed smoothly, without delay and in a visually impressive way.

Finding the right projection screen for gaming
If you are looking for an intense and detailed gaming experience, you should not only pay attention to the quality of the projector, but even more so to the choice of the right projection screen. It is not primarily the type of construction - whether manual, motorised, frame or floor scissor screen - that is decisive, but above all the screen fabric used. It has a decisive influence on image brightness, contrast and colour reproduction.
Projectors or televisions for gaming?
Whether for demanding single-player gaming, competitive multiplayer sessions or immersive simulations: The choice of the right display device plays a decisive role. A television impresses with high picture sharpness and short response times. A projector, on the other hand, offers an exceptionally large image and enables a particularly intense gaming experience, especially in darker rooms. Depending on the area of application and personal requirements, each technology offers specific advantages.
A 4K projector offers a significantly higher resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) than a full HD projector (1920 x 1080 pixels), which leads to a much sharper and more detailed display, especially with large screen diagonals. For gaming, this means a more intense visual experience with clearer textures and finer details. However, 4K projectors usually require more powerful hardware to display games smoothly in native 4K resolution, and they often have a higher input lag than Full HD models. If you value responsiveness and performance, for example in competitive games, you may be better off with a high-quality Full HD projector - while 4K projectors are ideal for graphics-intensive single-player titles and cinematic experiences.
- Whether a projector or a TV is better suited for gaming depends heavily on the individual area of use and personal priorities. Both types of device offer specific advantages and disadvantages:
Projectors:Ideal for a large, cinema-like image and an immersive gaming experience - especially for story games or multiplayers. Our gaming projectors offer up to 240 Hz and very low input lag - so they are also ideal for fast-paced gaming.
TVs: Offer brilliant picture quality, high brightness and are particularly suitable for everyday use. However, the picture size is limited and large models are significantly more expensive. - When gaming with a projector, the image size should match the seat distance and room size. As a guideline, the screen diagonal should correspond to around one third to one half of the seat distance. At a distance of 3 metres, 100 to 120 inches is ideal. It is important that the image is large enough for an immersive experience, but not so oversized that details are lost or the field of vision is overwhelmed. The resolution of the projector also plays a role - a slightly smaller screen is recommended for Full HD than for 4K in order to optimise the sharpness of the image. For a more precise calculation, it is worth taking a look at our projection surface calculator.
- Yes, this is possible in principle - however, the image quality depends heavily on the ambient light. Just like a television that is directly exposed to sunlight, the image of a projector suffers significantly when exposed to direct light. The projected image then quickly appears washed out or milky. To counteract this, ALR (Ambient Light Rejecting) or CLR (Ceiling Light Rejecting) projection screens, for example, can help. These are specially developed to specifically reject disturbing ambient light / ceiling light and noticeably improve contrast and colour reproduction - even in daylight. Nevertheless, the more controlled the lighting conditions, the better the result.

More than just size - experience gaming in a new way
A projector not only provides an impressive image size, but also creates a completely new gaming experience. Anyone who has ever played a game on over 100 inches will wonder how they were ever satisfied with less. But size alone is not the key to an optimal gaming experience - the right components, suitable room conditions and high-quality accessories, such as a projection screen, are crucial. That's why we don't just offer you devices, but customised solutions for your future gaming setup.
